Wrap the day into the workpapers

Lesson 4 of 5 · The practitioner's week

1 · Learn the move · Recipe pattern

A client matter's real record is spread across a call log, a voicemail from the Service, a text from the client's bookkeeper, a reviewer's margin note, and your memory, which is gone by Monday. A ten-minute wrap-up fixes that if it always has the same shape and never has a name in it when it goes through a tool. DONE: what happened, with the matter code on every line. DECIDED: what the client, the reviewer or you decided, one line each, with who said it by role. CHANGED: any figure, date, position or scope that moved, written as old value, new value, reason, never buried in prose. OPEN: what is unfinished, each with an owner by role and a date. AUTHORITIES OPENED: what you read today, with the date, so tomorrow's VERIFY list is shorter. The model sorts your scraps into that shape and stops. It does not tidy a figure it cannot see, it never computes a deadline, and it does not add a name you did not type. The wrap-up goes in the workpapers by hand.

Here are my scraps from today on matter [code], de-identified: [paste]. Sort them into DONE (with the matter code on every line), DECIDED (one line each, who by role), CHANGED (old value, new value, reason), OPEN (owner by role, date), AUTHORITIES OPENED (what I read today, with today's date). Do not tidy a figure you cannot see in the scraps, never compute a deadline, and do not add any name. If a scrap fits nowhere, list it under UNSORTED.

2 · Your turn. You write the prompt

Six-thirty on a Thursday. The senior on Entity A's exam has a voicemail from the examiner about a document request, a call with the client's bookkeeper about a missing ledger, two authorities she opened on the substantiation question, and a reviewer's note moving the position from 'take' to 'disclose'. She wants it in the workpapers before she leaves.

Write the prompt for this scenario as given, or swap in a real one from your own work. The score works the same either way.

Remember: the AI sees only your prompt, not this page. If the situation isn't in your prompt, it doesn't exist.

Optional. These shape the output when you run your prompt below, not your score.
